Rugeley is a fictitious cross-country junction located somewhere in the West Midlands. It was deliberately chosen to enable our members to run steam or diesel locomotives of all regions (with the obvious exception of Southern) although we try to stick to one region at a time.
Double track enters from the west under a viaduct carrying a disused colliery branch line and runs past a factory. Over the years, there have been so many suggestions for the factory's end product that it has now been decided that it should be covered by the Official Secrets Act (There is a rumour that it manufactured parts of the Iraqi Super-Gun.).
The main Station Buildings are loosely based upon those in several locations in the vicinity of Guildford, whereas the Goods Shed owes allegiance quite unmistakably to the Great Western Railway.
At Engine Shed Junction, the tracks split into two single line sections passing either side of the scrapyard and the outskirts of the town where most of the buildings are about twenty years old and have already survived several transplants from previous layouts.
The track is signalled throughout using Model Signal Engineering parts. The fiddle yards are plywood and aluminium angle cassettes. Trains run to a sequence timetable.
